Commitment

Bring It!

Just because it’s causing some pain and seems to be going nowhere doesn’t mean it’s not working for you. What hides in the gap between cause and effect, between known and unknown, is the gold everyone else quit looking for. It’s up to you to believe it or not.
It’s up to you to find it or not. It’s always there waiting for those who don’t quit, keep their focus and live true to their vision.

As you continue in your goals: Remember the difference between the healthy, strong, fit person and the one who is not these things.
That difference is commitment.

Never Quit!

Results From Power 90

Click HERE for a larger view

I’m very happy with my results from Tony Horton’s Power 90 program! As can be seen in my pics, my arms and legs were/are pretty skinny anyway, so I didn’t measure them. (Wish I would have now because I’ve definitely gained muscle and definition that I didn’t have before)

My weight dropped from 217ish to 200.

Resting heart rate went down from mid 60′s to low 50′s.

I’m in the army, so my short term goal is to improve my physical fitness test. Long term goal is to max it out.

I went from being able to do 52 pushups in 2 minutes before Power 90 to being able to knock out 67 on my last PT test 30 days ago.
My situps improved from 62 before Power 90 to being able to max out for my age at 82 reps.
The 2-mile run improved from 16:47 before Power 90 to 15:47 after.

I incorporated pull ups into my circuit days as well about 30 days in, even though they weren’t on the disc. Before starting, I wasn’t able to even do one pull up. Now I can almost do 5 and will continue to work on them.

The Paper Towel Theory

Here’s a little story adapted by a fellow Team Beachbody member.
I thought this was a great way to look at any workout routine.
It goes like this:
—————–
A little inspiration for those of you who are worried about not
seeing any changes in your body so far. It’s what I call the “Paper
Towel Theory”.

Let’s assume you go out and buy two rolls of paper towels, each with
only 90 paper towels on it (one for each day of the program). You put
one aside, and keep it for future reference (your “before” picture).
The other one represents you (I’ll call your paper towel you “Ed”).
The core represents the lean Ed. The towels represent the fat that is
covering the lean Ed. For the sake of argument let’s assume that Ed
loses his fat equally during each day of the program.

Each day during the first week, you tear a sheet off of Ed, representing
the fat he has lost for the day. You put Ed next to the full roll
(“Big Ed”) for comparison. No noticeable difference!!! Even at the end
of the week! This can’t be working for me!

But, being a good Ed, you continue to follow Power 90. At the end
of weeks two and three, you continue to compare Ed to Big Ed, and still
notice very little difference. That stinkin’ Tony Horton MUST
be a liar!

But Ed is determined! He works hard and gives it all he’s got; eating clean.
Three more weeks go by; the sheets peeling off day after
day before Ed gets up the courage to stand next to Big Ed again. Holy
Shakeology, Batman!
Ed is skinny! OK, not skinny, but less huge!!!

By the end of the 90 day program, Ed is down to his lean
dream, or somewhere near it. Ed is happy.

The lesson to be learned is that fat, like paper towels, comes off
in sheets. When you are heavy, you are big around. And when you are big
around, that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area – just like that
outside towel sheet. The closer you get to the lean you, the more each
lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area.

While the outside sheet may only cover 1 layer of the roll, the inside
sheet may go around 4 times. That last sheet looks like it gives you 4
times the results of the first sheet, but in reality, the results are
the same – your perception is just different! And you’ll never see the
inside, if you aren’t patient while the outside is coming off!

$400M Company Covered On CNBC.com

Great review of Beachbody done on CNBC.com.

Article:

————————————————————-
Beachbody Grows Exponentially Thanks To Network Marketing

There are not many companies these days that can do $400 million in sales and remain relatively anonymous.

Yet Beachbody, a private company, grossed nearly as much as Groupon did last year and very few people talk about the robust engine that is behind exercise workout programs like P90X, INSANITY and Turbo Jam.

Under the leadership of co-founder Jon Congdon and Carl Daikeler, the company has developed a business model that seems to be Teflon, turning successful converts of its programs into network marketers who ensure that the brands flourish.

Many multi-level marketing companies are based on building a network of sellers and distributors getting rewarded based on the size of their network.

Most often, the people who have gotten in on the ground floor reap the greatest benefits while those late to the game struggle to make money.

What makes Beachbody’s network of distributors, called coaches, so successful is that these people have done the programs and are often in incredible shape. Their testimonial and therefore their business relies on how good they look, not whether they tell friends that a certain superfruit drink helps them have more energy or cures their stomach problems.

It seems like, more often than not, network marketing thrives on results which can’t be verified, but if my fat friend shows up with a six-pack, I’ll be more likely to believe he was doing an intense workout program.

Since starting the network marketing program three and half years ago, Beachbody now has 51,000 coaches who take a cut of videos and nutritional products they sell. Beachbody coaches sell $1 million worth of nutritional shakes under the brand’s Shakeology name a week. And it’s not cheap at around $120 for a month worth of servings.

“We could have built this company’s sales a lot faster at retail by selling at Walmart and Target,” Daikeler said. “But selling it through direct television (infomercials) and through our network works better for us.”

Daikeler says that his coaches serve as walking billboards and salespeople who want to help their family and friends by helping them lose weight through the company’s exercise programs. This is unlike many other multi-level marketing companies that solely rely on building a network to make more money.

And Daikeler doesn’t have to pay for testimonials, a common practice in the infomercial business space he plays in.

“The standard network marketing doesn’t work with our model,” Daikeler said. “This is not a ponzi scheme where if you’re the last one in, you don’t have a chance to do well.”

While the average lifespan of a multi-level marketer is three months, Daikeler says his coaches remain in the system an average of 18 months. It’s why he’s confident that by the end of 2011, there will be 150,000 coaches.

“We don’t promise it will replace your every day job,” Daikeler said. “That has been the case with about 1,000 of our coaches. But what it does for others is it keeps them in shape. In order to continue to have credibility selling, you need to continue to keep up. And so, it allows the people who want to fight obesity, to be motivated by the fact that they have skin in the game.”

By continuing to have more and more videos – P90X led to a harder workout, INSANITY, and that program is leading to The Asylum, which will come out in a few weeks – I don’t see Beachbody slowing down any time soon. And the non-traditional, more patient route of using those converted to the brand by really using it is a smart approach that I think will pay off nicely down the road.

What to eat…

How often have we heard on the radio, seen on TV, read in a magazine that we need to eat healthier. More of this and less of that. Cut this out of our diets. Put this in.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen more than my share. What I find confusing and more than a little irritating is that many of these articles, commercials, and “newscasts” contradict each other or go against common medical advice.
It gets to the point that one begins to wonder if the truth is really out there, if anyone really knows what the best foods, supplements, vitamins are or if its all just speculation mixed with commercialism and propaganda.

To be honest, its taken me a long time to realize the importance of taking in the right types of foods in order to optimize my health. Not very long ago I was gorging on pizzas and fried chicken as often as I could, scoffing at the idea of taking vitamins, avoiding exercise like a plague; in short doing all the wrong things that most definitely would NOT get me to the place I’d like to be healthwise.
But when I finally did get smart and decide I needed to learn, it was very difficult to wade through all the bull to find good information.

One of the things that I love about Team Beachbody is that it literally takes all the guesswork out of eating healthy. I simply told the system my age, height, weight, exercise routine (or lack thereof), what I wanted to accomplish (lose weight, build muscle, thin down, etc), and clicked submit.
The system spit out a meal plan taylored directly to my goals, based on the data I submitted. The great thing is that it didn’t stop there. Not only did it give me a list of exactly what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, the ingredients, and how to cook it, but it gave me the option of swapping meals if I don’t like something. Let’s say I feel like mexican food today. Not a problem! Breakfast burritos, nacho supremes, black beans and rice, and any number of other meals. What if I decided I wanted to eat “Italian” today? How does spinach and ricotta manicotti sound? That’s what I had for supper last night!
The benefits don’t stop there either. When its time to go shopping, rather than having to go meal by meal and figure out all the ingredients, I simply click on the shopping list button on my meal plan. It gives me a complete list broken down by section (produce, canned goods, frozen food, etc) How cool is that??!

To sum up my thoughts, with all the information (and mis-information) out there, all the competing propaganda and advertisements trying to get us to buy into some person’s or business’s new pill or diet drink, I am just really thankful that I have everything literally at my fingertips in order to eat healthy, supplement correctly, and exercise smartly.

If you’d like to see what I’m talking about, I invite you to CLICK HERE.
You can fill in some basic info and be directed to the type of plan you would use.

If you’d like to become a club member and take advantage of the things I’ve discussed, you can do so by CLICKING HERE.

You’ll be very glad you did. I know I am!

Change made easy

I was doing some thinking today and decided I’d share my thoughts.  I’ve noticed that the people I talk to, whether they are in the military or not, desire to have great health; wish that they could be fit, healthy, and full of energy.

I’ve also noticed that almost all the people I talk to are not in the least bit interested in doing what is necessary to pull themselves out of a state of poor health or poor physical fitness and do what needs to be done in order to live a healthy life!

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths that we all go to in order to remain within our comfort zones, even if we know for certainty that it is NOT within our best interests or that it is bad or even dangerously detrimental to our health!

Most of the time, the effort to change seems like such an insurmountable challenge that we can’t bring ourselves to overcome and wind up giving up before we even start.

I think that we can all agree that this is a sad way to live; a sad way to BE.

What if I told you that there is in fact a decision that you could make that would put you on the road to better health and greater physical condition WITHOUT the headache of displacing your life?  What if I could show you a way that you could not only lose weight (if that’s your goal), but learn how to eat healthier (without giving up the good stuff!)?  Would it be worth your time to take a look?  If you answered YES, but don’t want to waste your personal time going to the gym or spending hours on an eliptical machine, you are just like me!  If there’s one thing I can’t stand, its the things in life that take away from my personal time, my family time, my OFF time.

If you’re like me, and want to have health, want to be fit, want to skip out on the office colds and varying sicknesses, but don’t want to give up your personal time to obtain these benefits, I’ve got something I’d like to share with you.

The benefits I’ve discussed can be yours, as they are mine, for under an hour a day, IN YOUR HOME, and without a bunch of silly equipment.  All it requires is yourself and your “Bring it” face. “Decide. Commit. Succeed.”

Personal Progress Report

DAY 60

DAY 0

I have been actively and closely following the meal plans for my height, weight, age, build, and goals on the Team Beachbody website in conjunction with Tony Horton’s Power 90 Program. This means that I must take in 2,500 calories a day in 5 meals. Needless to say, I’ve been eating VERY well, shopping according to the shopping lists on the site, which gives me the chance to eat all the things I like – pizzas, tacos, mac&cheese, waffles, omelets, burritos, and even cheeseburgers and a whole lot more! I’m loving my meal plans and loving the workout routines. Who knew that working out, getting fit, and stuffing one’s face could be so much fun and so worth while! :)
I’m not done with the Power 90 program. As a matter of fact, I’ve just completed DAY 60. With 30 days to go, today was picture day. This means progress photos. Check out the progress I’ve made so far between DAY 0 and now! How exciting is this!!?
